Out walking on the weekend I came across this sign and thought the “dry” in the middle of the word was rather special – I’ve only ever seen “dro” before.
I did not notice how truly special the sign was until I took a second look …
I wonder if the red mark before and under “aundrymat” is supposed to be the L. I can’t tell from the photo, but it looks like maybe that red mark could go around the entire sign. It seems like a strange place for the sign to begin with. is this a home or a business??
I was thinking that. I have seen some weird and hilarious signs.
When we were driving somewhere, with my husband, who is born and bred British, we came upon one of those “tresspassers will be shot” signs. He laughed so hard…my son and I were embarrassed.
Good ole Southern US of A!
I’ve seen “laundrymat” once or twice and I think there was a “laundermat” on the way to my last job from my old apt.
Oh, when I looked I assumed the red thing was the L.
Well, if the red line is the “L” I think that’s stupid! 🙂 There’s a red line across the top and a red bit down the right hand side. But I think you might be right. I tend to pronounce it ‘laundreemat” …..
LOL I am for the red line being the L. I only reacted to the dry and dro thing. But to be honest – if I hadn’t been to the US so many time and seen the concept around a lot (even using it – yay) I probably would have been tempted to start spelling it laundry-mat too. 😆 (Thank God for spell-check)
Owie. I wonder what it’d be like to get “bleached” there!
I checked to see if the “L” had been folded under but nope – it was just not there! LOL…. I guess English was not their first language.

Oh – I didn’t think of that. A big fancy L. It’s a business underneath a beauty “parlour” …..

In West Virginia we saw a sign asking people to leave their guns outside…..

It does kind of look like Lllllllllllllllllllllaundrymat. But it also kind of looks like Aundrymat. I can’t decide which one is more Special.
I thought it was Aundrymat until everyone mentioned that silly red line….

Engrish.
and that was not racist – it was Southern.
LOL – there are a *lot* of laundromats in my area and they are always full of people! Sometimes I wonder if they are just a meeting place…..
Excellent!
🙂
Good eye, for I had to taken a few looks at it before I noticed…
There are so many funny things right in front of us – we probably don’t notice many of them.
I second that thought.
This reminds me so much of Boston. A lot of little shops are tucked under the bigger buildings. The ‘L’ almost does disappear, doesn’t it?
